Shodan Karate Do

Karate is a fun fitness activity with so many benefits!

SKD is a family friendly Karate club training in Calgary, Alberta, Canada (locations).

Come train with us at any level, from beginner to advanced, children, youths, and adults.  We do recommend ages 6 to adult.  If children are ages 4 and 5 we do  recommend a parent to participate in the Karate class with them.  Email or phone for more information.

We have many training options per week, to easily fit your schedule.

We get fit, have fun, and build strength and confidence by working in these areas:

Kihon (Basics)

The karate practitioner, or “Karateka”, first learns basic moves, such as punches, blocks and kicks. There are variations of each move, depending on the application, and these are practiced independently of application to ensure good form.

Kata

The essence of Shotokan Karate is expressed in a series of moves where the karateka attacks and protects ones self from multiple imaginary enemies.
This choreography allows the practice of skills using lethal force of the body, yet safely in the combat arena of the mind.

Kumite

Kumite is the practical application of karate to real opponents, which develops the skills of timing, distance, and methodology.
Increasing levels of kumite provide increasing ability to apply skills.
